SteamHeart Production Update
SteamHeart is currently on hold, and the podcast will return in a few month’s time.
A: The first book and audio dramatization was put together over a few months at the end of 2013. The next four were released, beginning in early 2015, sequentially, one episode per week until SteamHeart began, with only a few weeks break between stories. This was a brilliant way to maintain momentum and creative energy, as well as consistently satisfying our audience.
SteamHeart proved to be slightly different. It was planned out, the same as the previous books, but draws together all the previous books, which means a lot of sub-plots need to be addressed, loose ends tied up and mysteries solved while posing new ones. It's also MASSIVE. Like Goblet of Fire levels of page increase.
I realised around episode 10 that my School of Movies reviewing and podcasting schedule was getting way too heavy and that if I persisted and kept trying to release, the writing would suffer, we would undergo inevitable week-to-week delays and the final story would be messy. So I put the brakes on, quit writing about a movie a day, and went back to planning, as well as setting up this website, adapting The Princess Thieves into a novel, which was harder than the last four due to the nature of the script, and putting together a Princess Thieves miniseries.
Q: Ooh, what’s that?
A: It’s called The Christmas Thieves, it will be available this holiday season in complete written and audio drama form, and then released in chapters for a limited time on the podcast feed. In other words, rather than producing it week by week, this one is already going to be done when we start the release, you can either buy it one go or wait for the free podcasts. This will become the new sixth book of the New Century series, though it will be a short novelette, more like Secret Rooms. This makes SteamHeart Book 7.
Q: And then?
A: After that, after I have written the scripts for every episode, in early 2018, SteamHeart will return with Episode 12. And it will run through to its conclusion and cap off Phase 1 as planned.
Q: And after that?
A: Book 8, it’s set on Rama and it’s a treasure hunt with a new group of Cats.
